Nearly three months after the deadly workplace shooting at Accent Signage Systems, Minneapolis police have released their final documents in the investigation.
The last release totals 20 pages and covers every detail of the scene, from where the victims were located to each piece of evidence that was collected in the office.
Investigators who analyzed gunman Andrew Engeldinger's computer uncovered that he shopped for the most effecting equipment he could have to carry out the attack. Yet, although they can trace where and when he bought his guns and ammunition, there may never be an explanation of why he did it.
The documents show that when the production manager called Engeldinger, 36, into his office to tell him the company was terminating his employment, the reaction was far from a spontaneous response to being fired.
"He meant to do as much damage as he could -- absolutely," explained criminal defense attorney Joe Tamborino. "With the number of rounds and the type of weapons that he had, there's no doubt about it."
Although no court will ever deliver justice for the six victims, police still investigated the crime with the same level of detail as they would if the shooter had not taken his own life. That's why forensic investigators examined every file -- including deleted ones -- on Engeldinger's personal laptop.
"You're able to get pieces of planning and intent from a person's computer history," Tamborino explained.
Two files contained information about purchasing a Glock handgun and a federal firearms license. His Internet history from a year before the shooting shows he compared bullets and searched for discounts on wholesale ammunition.
At the scene, investigators collected 25 discharged shell casings throughout the building from between where he shot the company founder twice in the head to the loading dock where he killed a UPS driver. They also found a manila envelope marked "Andy" on the floor of the production manager's office. It contained a time card and a final check for $968.46.
