Tremaine Lynn Lebis, 42, of Stockbridge, Ga., was killed after allegedly firing at police officers on Wednesday.
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -
The suspect killed in a fatal shootout with Clayton County police on Monday had a criminal past, police said.
Tremaine Lynn Lebis, 42, of Stockbridge, Ga., was killed after allegedly firing at police officers on Wednesday. Clayton County Police Officer Sean Callahan, 24, also died after being shot twice in the head.
Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call involving Lebis and 41-year-old Lisa Ann Lebis at a Motel 6 in Stockbridge. Officers said that Tremaine Lebis ran from police, prompting Callahan to chase after him. That's when the gunfire erupted that killed both men.
Authorities arrested Lebis. She appeared before Superior Court Judge Daphne Walker on Thursday on charges of simple battery and obstructing an officer. Lebis told the judge that the suspect was her husband.
"I was a stay at home mom. My husband, he had an inheritance...before Clayton County shot him. I don't know how that's going to go now," Lisa Ann Lebis said.
Lebis allegedly struggled with responding officers at the Motel 6; the judge said that Lebis is accused of making physical contact in an insulting and provoking nature.
"When he placed his hand on your shoulder and pushed you back down into the vehicle, at that point, they're indicating that upon entering the vehicle, you did lean back and with your right foot kick Sgt. Waits in the chest," said Walker.
The couple was from Henry County, where court documents indicate Tremaine Lebis was on parole after a conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
His widow says she needs treatment for multiple medical issues.
"I'm 5 months pregnant, I have seizures, I'm diabetic and I have an aneurysm on my brain also," Lisa Lebis told the judge.
The judge set bond for Lisa Lebis at $17,000. She had not made bond as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. FOX 5 has not found any prior convictions that Lisa Lebis had.
