A St. Paul man was hit by a car and killed Sunday night on Highway 23 near Askov, Minn.
The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as 23-year-old Ryan Lockart.
According to the State Patrol, a 71-year-old Stanchfield, Minn. man was driving on west on Highway 23, about a half mile east of Interstate 35, when he struck Lockart with his Toyota Prius.
The accident happened at about 8:22 p.m.
The Pine County sheriff's preliminary investigation shows Lockart and a relative had been drinking together at a local tavern. An altercation occurred and the two men left the tavern in their pickup truck. During the drive home the two men argued, stopped the truck and got into a fight on the side of the road.
The relative got back into the truck and drove-off, leaving Lockart on the side of the road. Investigators found what appear to be a set of footprints leading from the site of the fight traveling down a county road and onto Highway 23, where Lockart was struck by a car.
The driver of the car was cooperative with at the scene and no charges were filed.
The relative was found at Saint Mary's Hospital in Duluth, where he was charged with DWI by the Minnesota State Patrol.
