A tearful President Obama says the country's leaders must "take meaningful action" regardless of politics in response to the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
Shortly after news broke of a mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning, CNN's Piers Morgan compared the shooting to the 1996 Dunblane school massacre in Scotland.
"This is America's Dunblane," Morgan posted on Twitter. "We banned handguns in Britain after that appalling tragedy. What will the U.S. do? Inaction not an option."
The March 13, 1996 shooting at Dunblane Primary School claimed the lives of 16 children and one adult before the shooter took his own life.
Intense public debate and petitions followed the shooting, leading to an official government investigation and report. Those measures led to the Firearms Act of 1997, which banned private ownership of handguns in the United Kingdom.
In the wake of another deadly school shooting in the United States, is more gun control and regulation needed?
