CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
FOX entertainment reporter Bill Zwecker got a look at the big movies opening Friday, including "The Hobbit" and "Hyde Park on Hudson." He also sat down with "Les Miserables" star Amanda Seyfried.
Friday marks the official opening of Peter Jackson's long-anticipated "The Hobbit," based on J.R.R. Tolkien's original book, which launched the "Lord Of The Rings" film phenomenon a decade ago.
"The Hobbit," which will be the first of what will be another trilogy, can be viewed in 3D. Jackson also shot it at twice the frames per second - 48 of them - which does give the look of this sweeping adventure a more realistic feel.
While "The Hobbit" is no where as deep as "The Lord of the Rings" films, I did like it quite a bit. I found it to be a delightful, completely compelling movie-going experience.
Also opening Friday is "Hyde Park on Hudson," with Wilmette's own Bill Murray delivering a truly Oscar-worthy performance as President Franklin Roosevelt. He showcased a specific pre-WWII story, both about his womanizing ways and about him becoming a friend of Britain's King George VI in the years prior to the war.
Laura Linney is also wonderful as a young, distant Roosevelt cousin who becomes FDR's lover.
Another big movie that's coming on Christmas Day is the epic musical "Les Miserables."
Amanda Seyfried stars as the adult Cossette. When I sat down with the actress in New York recently she told me about a day on the "Les Miz" set she will never forget.
Leslie Zemeckis, wife of Oscar winning director Robert Zemeckis, has released her new book, "Behind the Burly Q: The History of American Burlesque." She explains where it all started - with a documentary.
