Do you really have to stand in line on Black Friday in order to get the best deal? The discount tracking website ZingSale.com says maybe not, because the prices are still dropping.
According to the site, retailers slashed prices an average of 33 percent on Black Friday. Now, retailers are ramping up their sales to 43 percent.
Depending on what you're looking for, the best prices may still be yet to come. Even at the Mall of America, there are plenty of eye-popping deals.
"I was surprised," admitted Joe Edminster. "We found some really good deals today. I mean, they're really discounting things."
Just two weeks before Christmas, retailers are still slashing prices to keep people shopping. Allison Kaplan, shopping editor for Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine, says that's because Black Friday never really stopped.
"People have only done about half their shopping," she explained. "That means there's a lot of shopping in these two weeks before Christmas, so retailers are really ramping up to offer some great deal very close to Christmas for those procrastinators."
According to ZingSale, a Samsung 32-inch HDTV sold on Black Friday for $419. Now, it's available for just $277; however, the Nintendo Wii has actually gotten more expensive since Black Friday -- although it was selling for just $100 last week.
The Leap Frog Learning Tablet for kids is also below its best Black Friday price at just $66, and the Keurig coffee maker is now clocking in at $123. The hot-selling Furby is now $11 cheaper than it was on Black Friday.
The biggest discounts can be found on toys and games, followed by winter clothes and tablet computes.
"It's the peer pressure of retail. You gotta offer a discount," Kaplan said. "More than anything, they want to clear it out because the first week of January, they're going to be set up for spring."
Since retailers do want to clear out their caches, it's a good idea to pick up any items in the size you need while you can. Since the recession hit, retailers haven't kept a large inventory on hand.
