City of Atlanta officials confirm to FOX 5 that two supervisors were allegedly caught drinking on the job.
Atlanta Human Resources Commissioner Yvonne Cowser-Yancy said that she received several anonymous tips on Friday about people drinking during a break at a training exercise.
Leaders reviewed a surveillance tape and allegedly saw the supervisors opening mini-alcohol bottles and taking some sips.
"We have video that captured activity around the facility where the training took place," said Cowser-Yancy.
A source tells FOX 5 that a camera captured the supervisors opening the trunk of a city vehicle and retrieving bottles of alcohol. The drinking allegedly started in the morning.
Cowser-Yancy said that she plans to fire the workers involved in Friday's incident. The commissioner is withholding the video and the names of three people involved , as the disciplinary action has not been finalized.
Curbing the drinking problem has been a big issue for city hall managers. In an earlier case, a citizen called FOX 5 after spotting a sanitation crew that had beer on a garbage truck.
Word of Friday's incident concerned Howard Shook of the Atlanta City Council.
"Who is watching the managers? You don't want it on any level. Now, when you see evidence of that possibly going up the ladder and especially creeping into the director's level, that is obviously a red flag," said Shook.
