Alec Baldwin critical of NYC city council speaker

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Alec Baldwin says he doesn't think New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn should become the city's next mayor because she is politically "untrustworthy."

The "30 Rock" actor made the comment during an appearance Thursday evening on the CNN program Piers Morgan Tonight.

Asked who he would support in the mayor's race, Baldwin, who has thought about running for mayor himself, said he liked city Public Advocate Bill De Blasio.

He called Quinn a "lovely person" but said he lost trust in her after the city council tossed out a voter-enacted law that had limited current Mayor Michael Bloomberg to two terms.

Baldwin said he felt the maneuver was underhanded.

The speaker's office declined to comment.

Quinn is regarded as a front-runner in the 2013 mayoral race.
