Police have a man in custody suspected of throwing something at an MTA bus and breaking its window in East Harlem, causing a scare that a shooting had happened, the NYPD said.

The incident happened at Lexington Avenue and East 116th Street at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday and was originally reported as a shooting, police said.

The driver of a Chevy Impala threw a "blunt object" at an M101 bus that was carrying passengers, the NYPD and MTA said. The object broke a window on the bus but did not apparently strike anyone, police said.

Police found the car and the driver at East 112th Street between Second and Third Avenues and took the man into custody, the NYPD said.

The bus driver was taken to a hospital to be checked for trauma, the MTA said. The driver said that the car had cut him off.
