Deputies responded about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to Schick's home in the 100 block of Jessie Street in unincorporated Joliet Township, where they found the elderly woman unresponsive, the sheriff's office said.
Agerton was paroled from the downstate Jacksonville Correctional Center, where he was serving time for a an aggravated DUI conviction, the day before the killing, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Agerton, who was living with his grandmother after being released, told deputies he woke from a nap and found his the woman unresponsive on the floor, then called 911, the sheriff's office said.
But based on statements he made to detectives and physical evidence found at the scene, police say he murdered the woman, the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office could not be reached for comment on the cause of death Wednesday night.
Bond was set at $5 million on Wednesday and Agerton will be back in court Thursday.
