A Minneapolis police officer charged with assault for punching a man while off-duty at a bar in Andover, Minn. last summer is in court Wednesday.
David Clifford will take part in a pre-trial hearing. Reports are Clifford's lawyer will ask the judge to dismiss the charges, saying a detective tried to get witnesses to change their statements.
Clifford was charged with third-degree assault after punching Brian Vander Lee on the patio at Tanner's Station in June. Vander Lee hit his head on the concrete and needed several brain surgeries.
The lawyer claims Clifford was acting in self-defense. His trial is set to begin in April.
