Minnetonka man killed in crash with police squad

A 52-year-old Minnetonka man was killed when his car was broadsided by a police squad Tuesday night at the intersection of Excelsior Blvd. and Woodland Road.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Officer Dan Aschenbrener was traveling west on Excelsior on an emergency call, with lights and sirens activated. The Minnetonka man was driving his BMW north on Woodland when he was struck around 9:28 p.m.

The victim was not wearing a seat belt. It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Aschenbrener was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with minor injuries.
