Class is back in session Wednesday for students in northwest suburban Carpentersville after striking teachers reached a "tentative agreement" with Community Unit School District 300, the district said on its website.
Teachers in the Local Education Association of District 300 and the Board of Education reached a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract, the district said on its website Tuesday night.
"We believe the agreement that was reached is fair to the teachers and responsible to the taxpayers of the community," the district's website said. "We are not releasing details of the proposal immediately to allow LEAD an opportunity to update its members. We will release the specifics within the next several days."
LEAD 300's Facebook page also said Tuesday night that "We have a tentative agreement. Stay tuned."
Teachers in Illinois' sixth-largest school district walked off the job Tuesday after all-day negotiations Monday failed to reach an agreement, the Courier-News reported.
The teachers union previously said the major sticking points in negotiations with the district, which started in earnest in January, were lowering class sizes, raising teacher pay to be more competitive with surrounding districts and improving the learning and work environment for both students and teachers.
All 27 schools in District 300 were closed, and all activities, cancelled, shutting more than 20,000 students out of their classrooms.
Classes will be back in session Wednesday, the district's website said.
