CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
There's more buzz for the British royal family, but why do Americans care so much?
Princess Kate's pregnancy is just the latest in a series of recent stories about the royals to make news here in the Untied States.
From William and Kate's wedding, to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and even Prince Harry's nude party photos, some Americans just can't get enough of the royals.
Monday's baby announcement was the talk of the "British School of Chicago," where most of the teachers and administrators are from the United Kingdom.
They say hearing about their future king or queen gives them a taste of home, but they have different ideas about why we care so much.
"I'm not sure. It's an interesting one," says Henry Bray. "They seem to care even more than we do I think at times."
"I think it stems from a lack of some sort of history or heritage in terms of royalty that America doesn't have. Your history in the grand scheme of things is relatively short," says Eleanor Davis.
"Obviously you have the president here, and he's a big deal as well, but it's nice to see something different, like a royal family that's come through generation after generation after generation," says Justine Bricheno.
On Facebook, Alex says: "Americans fought to rid ourselves of royalty, and we would not want it back...but many still are awed by the visions of the beautiful princess and her prince."
Todd: "I don't know why Americans are fascinated with the British Royal family. Didn't we part ways with them? I seem to remember some kinda revolution over the monarchy."
Charlie says, "I think `you the media' are fascinated by them more than anyone."
