CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A woman collapsed inside a currency exchange and at least three other people fell to the ground after being shot at a busy corner Monday evening in the South Shore neighborhood.
Paramedics responded at 5:55 p.m. to East 75th Street and South Exchange Avenue and took five people to area hospitals -- four in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
The shooting happened at a busy intersection outside a Western Union currency exchange. Witnesses said two men approached a group standing on a corner and opened fire.
The witnesses said a woman waiting for the bus was struck by the gunfire and went inside the Currency Exchange, where she collapsed. At least three other men fell to the ground after being shot.
The fire department said paramedics took two people in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, two people in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and one person in good to fair condition to South Shore Hospital.
The corner is also near a Metra station and the Villa at Windsor Park Nursing & Rehab Center, which locked its doors after the shooting.
The CTA rerouted 74th/75th Street (No. 75) and 71st/South Shore (No. 71) buses in both direction near Exchange Avenue, the CTA said.
Police could not immediately provide any details Monday night.
