The Gophers football team accepted aninvitation to play in the 2012 Meineke Car Care Bowl and will face Texas Techon December 28 at 8 p.m. at Reliant Stadium in Houston Texas.
"We look forward to playing in theMeineke Car Care Bowl of Texas and will work hard to make the Big TenConference and Gophers fans proud," said Minnesota director of athleticsNorwood Teague in a press release. "It is an honor to accept this invitation,and we look forward to working with Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas ExecutiveDirector Heather Houston and all the staff and volunteers to make this one ofthe most enjoyable and successful bowl games of the holiday season."
The Gophers will play in their 15th overall bowl game, but first since2009. The team finished with six wins sealing a surprising bowl bid.
"Our goal all year was to qualify for a bowl game," said senior MarQueisGray."I am happy for our senior class, the rest of the team and our coaching staff.We have worked hard all season to be able to reach the postseason, and it is agood feeling to know we accomplished one of our goals. However, we are notsatisfied. We will continue to work hard and will do our best to try and winthis bowl game for Minnesota."
Texas Tech finished the regular season 7-5 and has the 12thbest offense in the nation led by senior quarterback Seth Dodge.
The Gophers are 0-1 all-time against Texas Tech as they lost to the Red Raiders44-41 in overtime in the 2006 Insight Bowl.
