Cribs meant for needy Cherokee County families were stolen from a resource center for pregnant women and new mothers. The baby furniture was inside a trailer parked outside the Woodstock facility, and authorities say the thief who drove it away was caught on camera.
There were five brand new cribs inside the trailer, and they were meant for needy mothers who earned them by attending parenting classes at The Hope Center. But in less than two minutes, they were gone.
Surveillance cameras captured the crime on Wednesday night just before 7 p.m. in the retail complex on Molly Lane. The incident went undetected until the next day.
Cinder blocks that supported the 5x8 Baby and More trailer were the only things left in the spot where the thrift store parked it for more than two years. The store's manager tells FOX 5 everything inside the trailer had been donated.
Catherine Rodriguez, a mom who got a piece of furniture her daughter sleeps in through the center, says she would be devastated if it happened to her. Now, she says, there will be children who don't have anywhere to sleep.
Thrift store managers say the trailer is marked with their logo on all sides, and they hope the surveillance video will help lead them to the person responsible—and maybe the furniture that is missing.
The Hope Center has been around for 20 years, and the trailer—which was donated—was used to transfer cribs and car seats. Employees say they can't afford to buy a new one.
