The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer from the Washington Nationals in exchange for center fielder Denard Span.
Meyer, 22 was the 23rd overall selection by Washington in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. He played college baseball at the University of Kentucky. Meyer, who stands 6-foot-9 went 10-6 with a 2.86 ERA this past season with Single-A Hagerstown and Single-A Potomac.
Span was originally drafted by the Twins in the first round of the 2002 draft, appeared in 589 games for the Twins hitting .284 with 230 RBI and 90 stolen bases over parts of five major league seasons.
