OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -- Police say a man expecting to purchase a pair of designers glasses instead found himself in the middle of a gun fight that left two teens injured.
Steve Cooper, Oak Park's director of public safety, says a Detroit man in his 20s agreed to purchase a pair of Cartier glasses for $500 from the teens. But when he arrived at the designated meeting spot on a Oak Park street near Nine Mile and Coolidge Tuesday afternoon, something wasn't right.
Cooper says the man handed over the cash, but there were no glasses. Instead, one of the teens pulled a gun. The Detroit man responded with his own .40 caliber pistol. "That's when he pulled out his handgun and started firing several shots into the vehicle," said Cooper.
One of the teens was shot four times in the back, while the other was struck twice. The teens managed to getaway and drove to nearby Providence Hospital where officials notified police of their injuries. A short time later, the pair was under arrest. Both were released from the hospital and are awaiting charges.
Cooper says the man returned to the crime scene to tell police what happened. He is not facing charges at this time, but police say the case is still under investigation.
