Most people who work out are just concerned about staying in shape, but the co-founders of a fitness chain started in Minnesota are now venturing into the world of wax hair removal.
While I may involve a little pain for some gain, the storage room at the corporate headquarters of Anytime Fitness has become the newest employee perk. It's been transformed into a wax room where Lisa O'Brien has been waxing workers of all sexes.
All of this is being done in preparation for a new venture. Dave Mortensen and Chuck Runyon started Anytime Fitness 10 years ago, and they basically invented the concept of the strip-mall fitness center. Now, they're about to open their 2,000th location.
But they're also about to open something else. Recently, the pair bought a chain of five stores called Waxing the City, and they hope to take body waxing in the same, easy-to-access direction.
Their first location will open in a couple of weeks, but they plan to grow the stand-alone waxing store into a nationwide chain.
