Charges: East Bethel man admits shooting victim in face, arms, torso

Anoka County prosecutors have charged 24-year-old Adrian Dominique Bell, of East Bethel, with first-degree attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Anoka on Saturday.

According to the criminal complaint, the shooting took place at 3:14 p.m. at a home located on Southview Drive. When officers arrived, they found a man in a bedroom who was bleeding significantly on the bed.

Police say he appeared to have been shot multiple times. As the victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery, it was determined that he was shot in the face, arms and multiple times in the torso. He remains in critical condition.

Several people had been in the home at the time of the shooting. The homeowner told police she had been taking a nap with the victim, who is her boyfriend, when Bell came into the room, drew a gold hand gun and began shooting at the victim. She told police she fled past Bell, and knew the victim had been shot several times.

Two other adults who had been at the home during the shooting told officers they spent several hours watching television with Bell until he suddenly stood up and went toward the bedroom. The witnesses reported hearing several gunshots before Bell walked back out and left the apartment, still carrying the gun.

Alerts went out to law enforcement agencies nearby, and Bell was found during a traffic stop at 5:20 p.m. in the 3500 block of 4th Street North in Minneapolis. While officers were conducting the stop, a woman approached them to say Bell had been at her home minutes earlier and asked to leave some property there. Police located a black and gold Highpoint 9-mm handgun in her attic.

Bell was arrested and taken to the Anoka County Jail, where he admitted to buying the handgun with the intention of killing the victim to officers in a post-Miranda interview. Officers say he also admitted going to the home with the intent to kill the victim, but he waited until the man went into the bedroom because there was a baby present in the living room.

"I went back there to kill him," Bell told officers, according to the criminal complaint.

Officials say he also admitted to shooting the victim seven times.

Bell made his first appearance in Anoka County District Court on Tuesday. Bail was set at $750,000, and he has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.

"This was a personal dispute between these two men which erupted in to a tragedy," said Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo.

Bell will return to court on Dec. 26.
