Police in East Chicago are searching for the man who slashed another man's throat while robbing him at the South Shore transit station.
The victim was waiting for his wife Monday night and went to use the restroom, police say. The suspect followed him in, slashed his throat and stabbed him a second time as tried to run away. Police say the victim threw his car keys and wallet on the ground.
Police are looking for the man captured on surveillance video. He was last seen taking off in the victim's car – a silver four-door 2005 Honda Accord. The vehicle has an Illinois license plate of H713340.
Commuters at the station were on edge Tuesday night.
"It's sick," says Henry Weichman, a commuter. "The guy that slashed him could have been on drugs, could have been on anything, I don't know."
Some say they're not surprised this happened here.
"My car just got stolen, not too long ago...the last, 2 weeks ago," Antonio Harris says. "And this happened this week, so I can't really rely on security here."
"Even though there's a police station here, people will steal your car," another man said. "They know you're going to be there for 8 or 9 hours, so they're watching you."
Others still feel the station is safe.
"It seems very safe, it seems fine," says Audrea Caryton who was at the station to pick up a passenger. "You know, my husband went to the bathroom the last time I picked him up and he came out fine. Evidently maybe it was somebody that was after that person or a one time event."
