Meg Ladner has been recovering at Atlanta Medical Center this week after losing her leg in an accident where a train struck the parade float on which she was riding.
Meg and her husband Shane, an officer with the Holly Springs Police Department, were among the 17 people injured in the Hunt for Heroes Parade last Thursday in Midland, Texas. A train struck a float that was crossing the tracks. Four people died in the accident.
Officer Ladner spoke with FOX 5 News on Sunday about the accident and the couple's recovery. He said his wife will have to undergo yet another surgery Monday, but is getting stronger.
The former soldier said that he has put his own treatment for back injuries he received on hold until his wife Meg is awake and no longer needs him by her side.
A fund to help the couple has been set up for them at the Cherokee Bank in Canton. For more information on how you can donate visit cherokeebank.com.
