The Pierce County Sheriff's Office says a 9-year-old boy was airlifted to Regions Hospital after he was shot in the leg by his older brother on Saturday.
Deputies were dispatched to a home on 110th Street at shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report that a boy had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies learned an 11-year-old boy had been unloading a handgun inside the home when it accidentally fired. The bullet struck his 9-year-old brother in the leg.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the Mayo Menominie Hospital, but he was later airlifted to the metro area for further treatment.
The shooting remains under investigation.
