A Metra train struck and killed a person Friday night in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood, authorities said.
The person was fatally hit near the Irving Park station in the 3900 block of North Avondale Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs.
As a result, a Union Pacific/Northwest Line train heading to Crystal Lake from Chicago was stopped near the station, according to an alert on Metra's website. The train, which was expected to arrive at the northwest suburb at 7:08 p.m., could be delayed almost three hours, the alert said.
