CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An American Airlines employee was arrested Friday morning for trying to bring a gun onto an airplane at O'Hare International Airport.

The 65-year-old woman was taken into custody at a security checkpoint about 9:30 a.m. Friday after she "tried to board an aircraft with a weapon," said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

An x-ray machine detected a gun in the American Airlines employee's bag, authorities said.

Charges are pending as of Friday afternoon, police said.

An American Airlines spokesperson declined to comment, citing a company policy of not commenting on security matters and active police investigations.
