Do you know how many dollars you will drop on Thanksgiving dinner this year? The 27th annual informal price survey by the American Farm Bureau estimates it'll be just a little bit more than last year.
The good news is that the average bill appeared to climb by just 1 percent, increasing by 28 cents over last year.
The survey, which does not factor in any alcohol, estimates that the average cost of the Thanksgiving feast for 10 people is $49.48 this year.
So, what can you get for under $5 per person?
- Turkey
- Bread stuffing
- Sweet potatoes
- Rolls (one dozen)
- Peas
- Cranberries
- Relish tray
- Pumpkin pie
- Coffee
- Milk (gallon)
The big-ticket item is still the bird, which comes in at $22.23, or $1.39 a pound.
The American Farm Bureau Federation began the Thanksgiving survey in 1986, when the average cost of feeding 10 people was $28.74; however, the bureau does not make any scientific claims about the information. Rather, it's an informal gauge of price trends across the nation.
