Illinois' Lake County reports voting problems

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The county clerk in suburban Lake County is angry at some campaign workers who she says tricked voters into signing up for mail ballots when they did not want to vote by mail.

Willard Helander would not identify the candidate whose workers went door-to-door before the election. She says some workers convinced voters to sign the vote-by-mail applications they had no intention of filling out. Helander says the workers sometimes forged voters' signatures themselves.

She says when hundreds of voters showed up Tuesday to vote, they were told they couldn't because records showed they'd been mailed ballots.

She says her staff helped people vote, but waiting in long lines and filling out provisional ballots took hours.
