The family of a 2-year-old boy who was critically injured this week when a tree limb fell on top of him says they're trying to stay positive even though the latest news on his condition is not all good.
The young boy is in a medically-induced coma at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with injuries on both sides of his brain.
"They're still very much hour by hour. They won't give us a ‘He'll going to be OK,' they won't give us that he's going to survive because they can't. They can't give us false hope," said Crystal Condon, Tripp's aunt.
Tripp's brain is swelling, but not as badly as it was right after the accident.
"We're getting about 80 percent negative, 20 percent positive. We're holding on to that 20 percent positive and we can deal with that. We're trying to not look at the negative, not look at the numbers. Look at what the power of prayer does. And we know miracles can happen and we're praying for a miracle," said Condon.
The family believes that the boy's life has been a miracle. Tripp Halstead's parents tried for years to get pregnant before he came along. As an infant, a health scare brought him Egleston for heart surgery. Now, at the same hospital, he is trying once again to beat the odds.
"If you can imagine your worst nightmare, this is it. We are living our worst nightmare," said Condon.
His family believes Tripp's life has been a miracle and they believe he has a lot more fight left.
"So we're holding on to him fighting, and it's going to be OK. Whatever the outcome is, as long as he's with us, it's going to be OK," said Condon.
