Travelers stranded in the northeast due to superstorm Sandy finally began to make their way to Atlanta on Wednesday.
The storm forced 300 flight cancellations at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Monday. By Wednesday, only 32 cancellations were made.
Melanie and David Couchman of Sandy Springs spent a few days in Mahwah, New Jersey – located about an hour from New York City -- for her high school reunion. They were there when the storm came ashore.
"Flooding and the broken trees, and the lines for gasoline are two and three blocks long. It is just a devastated area," said Melanie Couchman.
They finally boarded a flight in Baltimore on Wednesday and arrived in Atlanta that night.
Karen Kelly was in Queens, NY, during the storm. Her baggage left on Sunday, three days before she could come back.
Members of the George Mason soccer team from Virginia arrived in Atlanta a day late for a game scheduled against George Tech on Thursday. Players said they left behind power outages.
Airline officials said they expect all flights to resume back to normal sometime after noon on Thursday.
