BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -- There was a gruesome discovery on Halloween in a Brownstown Township neighborhood. A mother was found murdered in her own home.
"We have a homicide at this point. It's early on in the investigation. I don't want to give out how the crime was committed, but it is a homicide," said Detective Lieutenant Robert Grant from Brownstown Township Police.
Police say someone killed the 46-year-old mother in her home sometime Tuesday night. The woman lived there with her teenage daughter, who is a college student. The daughter is safe.
Police won't say how the woman was killed. A neighbor trying to make contact with the woman discovered the body Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Investigators are interviewing people who knew the woman.
"We have several people, not even really people of interest at this point, people that we need to (speak with) to start the on-site investigation, and that includes a boyfriend, ex-husband, daughter and people that we just need to interview to get this thing going," Grant explained.
Children trick or treating on Halloween walked past the home where the woman was killed in the 15000 block of Brantford. Some of the little ghosts and goblins were totally unaware, while other people were shaken to the core with fear.
"I want to know who it was because if it's somebody just walking around that broke in, I'm scared to death," said neighbor Jennifer Rubel. "I was afraid to come home today because I got a call from my husband saying this happened."
Police say they'll learn more about the manner of death after the autopsy.
Meanwhile, neighbors say the single mother and her daughter lived quietly and there has never been a hint of trouble at the home.
"Sad because her and my daughter used to play all the time, so we know the family," said Rubel. "I feel for her. I wish her the best."
Investigators are looking for tips. If you have information, call Brownstown Township Police.
