Fresh off their first Big Ten win of the season, the Gophers picked up a couple of awards following the victory over Purdue.
Michael Carter captured defensive player of the week honors for his performance against Purdue. Carter tied a program record with six pass breakups and he returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown. It is Carter's first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award.
Minnesota Gophers freshman quarterback Philip Nelson was named Co-Freshman of the week thanks to his 246 yard three touchdown performance against Purdue. Nelson who made his home debut led the Gophers on seven consecutive scoring drives and captured his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor.
