SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - After more than a week of silence from the I-96 car shooter two more cars were struck Saturday. The shootings injured one driver.
The first vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-96 late Saturday morning and was struck by a bullet fired from an unknown location. The projectile struck the driver's side rear window, continuing through to the passenger's side rear window. An 18-year old male from Canton was driving the vehicle carrying one passenger, an 18-year old female from Plymouth. Neither were harmed.
The second incident happened about thirty minutes later. Once again the vehicle was struck while traveling eastbound on I-96 between the Ingham county line and the weigh station. The driver's side door was struck, hitting the driver in the left buttocks. He is a 46-year old male from Delton who was driving across state with tickets to game three of the World Series. He was the only person in the vehicle.
He was able to drive himself to a nearby gas station, where he was treated on site and then transported to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Livingston. He is listed in stable condition.
None of the victims saw a shooter. The type of firearm used is also unknown at this time. Livingston and Oakland County did search the area. I-96 Eastbound was also closed down for several hours.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward as this situation escalates. Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan recently added another $1,000 of reward money, bringing the total reward to $12,000. Call 1-517-483-STOP (7867) or leave a tip on their web site at www.crimestoppersofmidmichigan.com.
