Vikings induct Matt Blair into Ring of Honor

Posted: Updated:

Matt Blair took his rightful place among the Vikings greats Thursday night when he was inducted into the Ring of Honor. Drafted out of Iowa State in 1974, Blair was the Vikings second round pick and the Vikings advanced to the Super Bowl his rookie season.

"It's a moment in time that I get to be in the Ring of Honor," said Blair. "It's an awesome position to be in."

Blair is at or near the top of the statistical categories in Vikings history. His 1,452 tackles ranks second behind Scott Studwell. He is third in tackles in a season with 220, and sits alone with 20 career blocked kicks during his career that ran until 1985.

"I played all 12 years with the Vikings," said Blair. "Coming here as a Viking and playing, you just put your whole mind and commitment into it and you really stay to be a Viking."
