TROY, Mich. -- A 25-year-old father is locked up at the Troy Police Department for the death of his three-month-old baby girl.  An autopsy by the Oakland County Medical Examiner determined the infant's death was no accident.

"The autopsy was conducted, and the medical examiner ruled it a homicide, blunt force trauma," said Captain Robert Redmond with Troy Police.

Troy Police are not releasing many details about the incident, but we've learned it was Monday just before 2:30 a.m. when police officers were called to the family's home.  When they arrived, they found the mother outside hysterical.  The child and father were inside in a basement bedroom.

"The officers and the ambulance personnel ran down to the basement and found a three-month-old child, girl, laying on the rug in the basement.  The father was standing a few feet away.  The paramedics immediately picked the baby up, began CPR.  They had to leave the scene right away to rush her to the hospital.  By three in the morning, the baby was pronounced dead," Redmond explained.

Police aren't saying exactly how many people were in the home at the time of the incident, but we do know there were more than just the three.  In fact, Child Protective Services has been called in to investigate.  That would indicate that there were more kids in the home.

By law, the father can remain in police custody for up to 72 hours.  It's expected police will submit a request for a warrant to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office sometime on Wednesday.
