MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe avoided jail time Friday, but was given more punishment for violating terms of his probation.
Mbakwe is on probation in Florida after pleading guilty to an assault charge three years ago. He's also accused of driving drunk in July.
A judge in Miami ordered Mbakwe to attend alcohol abuse meetings at least three times per week. He was also ordered to have no contact with the assault victim and will be on probation for two more years from today's date.
This is Mbakwe's final season with the Gophers after being granted a 6th year of eligibility for medical hardship.
