Early shopping for holidays may not provide best deals

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's October and that means if you are the one who does the holiday shopping, time is ticking. It's good to get an early start but not everything this early is a deal.

A web site called Deal News tracks online sales and price breaks, and had some suggestions for you early bird shoppers.

First, grab denim. Stores still have back-to-school jeans they want to move. They saw deals even on higher-end lines like Lucky Brand.

If you have a cook on your gift list, wait until next month when you can start to see 25 percent discounts that will continue through the holidays.

Deal News says bigger appliances aren't on sale yet, and cold weather apparel prices won't dip until about January. But look for deals on some HDTVs and the site predicts prices to go down for Dell Ivy Bridge laptops.

Also, now is when price tags on electronics start to get slashed. But if you can wait until Black Friday when there are deeply discounted deals around, then do so.
