Police are investigating a drug overdose that ultimately killed a 27-year-old woman on Tuesday night.

Officers found Natasha Gates dead from an apparent overdose on Wednesday morning at a home near 83rd Avenue and Osborn Road.

Homicide detectives investigating the case said they learned Gates wanted to get "high" on Tuesday night so 27-year-old John Robert Franklin injected her with heroin.

Police believe Franklin realized she had overdosed after he injected her. Franklin didn't call for help and Gates eventually died. Medical help was finally called on Wednesday morning.

Heroin, paraphernalia used to inject heroin, mushrooms and equipment to grow mushrooms were found in the home.

Detectives are still investigating what happened but believe the allegations against Franklin are true based on evidence and circumstances.

Franklin was booked into jail and charged with negligent homicide and various drug charges.
