The Chaska Police Department has confirmed that the 16-year-old boy who was shot in the head with an arrow has died.
Police say Spenser Lucas Paul Swanson died Monday evening at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
Swanson was injured while riding his bicycle on Saturday Oct. 13 near his home. Officials say his friend, who is also 16, shot the arrow that injured him. The arrow did not have a tip on it, but ricocheted off the ground and pierced an artery in the teenager's brain.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, but an attorney representing the family of the boy who fired the arrow released a statement on Monday characterizing the incident as a "tragic accident."
Attorney Marsh Halberg released the following statement on that family's behalf:
"The young man and his family are grief stricken at the tragic accident that occurred on Saturday evening around 6 p.m. Two teenage best friends were at a home in Chaska. The one young man was accidentally shot in the head with a blunt shaft arrow. We believe this was truly a tragic accident. No alcohol or drugs were involved. The family asks for support and prayers for the young man who was shot as well as his entire family."
