ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Brighton Township firefighters worked for some time to free a 29-year-old man Tuesday afternoon.  Donald Lawrence was trapped in a tree dangling high above the ground.

We're told the owner of a lot in Brighton hired a friend of a friend to take down a massive tree.  Lawrence was tackling the job and made some progress until he hit a branch that proved too much to handle.

"They were cutting a very large branch, we're estimating about 2,500 pounds, about probably 50 feet off the ground," said Brighton Township Fire Chief Michael O'Brian.  "I couldn't tell you if it's a bad cut, if something slipped, if something broke."

Clearly something went wrong.  SkyFOX captured it all.  Lawrence was pinned between the branch and the tree.  His legs and armed were trapped unable to move.

His family told us he broke no bones, but he did suffer injuries to his legs, wrist and head.  He is being held overnight at the University of Michigan Hospital and is expected to be released sometime Wednesday.
