ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -
Five people in Minnesota are now diagnosed with the form of meningitis affecting hundreds across the country.
The Minnesota Department of Health says the latest fungal meningitis patient is a woman in her 20s. The five infections in Minnesota are among more than 200 nationwide.
So far, 15 people have died from the meningitis outbreak.
New England Compounding Center in Framingham, Mass., recalled about 17,000 vials of a tainted steroid linked to the outbreak before issuing a recall of all their products.
More than 800 Minnesotans have been exposed to those tainted steroids, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say other illnesses could be linked to the pharmacy's other products as well. In fact, officials are asking doctors to contact any patient who received an injection of any kind made by the company.
