Gopher men's basketball star Trevor Mbakwe was arrested on a DWI charge this summer, according to court records.
The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. on July 13, and Mbakwe pleaded guilty to the charge at a hearing on September 10.
According to the a Minnetonka Police Department report, Mbakwe was pulled over on I-394 after he failed to pull over and yield to a police car displaying emergency lights and activated sirens.
After he was pulled over, Mbakwe apologized for not pulling over and told the officer he had consumed one beer.
According to the police report, Mbakwe failed field sobriety tests, refused to take an alcohol content test at the scene and was taken to the Minnetonka Police Department. After consulting a lawyer, Mbakwe submitted a urine test and was booked for DWI.
The result of the test was an alcohol content of .12 percent.
He was sentenced to a period in a Hennepin County Workhouse, 16 hours of community service and placed on probation for one year.
Mbakwe was already on probation for violating a restraining order after sending a Facebook message to an ex-girlfriend.
Last November, Mbakwe tore his ACL during a tournament in Orlando.
Gopher men's basketball coach Tubby Smith is expected to address the incident during Friday's media availability.
