MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A sixth victim has died, nearly two weeks after the deadly shooting at Accent Signage in Minneapolis. Eric Rivers was in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center, but his the family made the difficult choice to take him off life support Wednesday.

In a statement Thursday morning, Rivers' family said he passed away Wednesday night:

"Eric Rivers passed away peacefully last night. We are grateful for the incredible courage displayed by the men and women who responded to the emergency and the wonderful medical team at Hennepin County Medical Center, who cared for Eric. At this time, the family asks for privacy as we deal with this personal tragedy. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

Rivers was the production manager at Accent Signage, and was the 7th - and last - person Andrew Engeldinger shot before he killed himself in the basement of the business.

"Today, Accent Signage Systems mourns the death of our dear friend and colleague Eric Rivers," the company said in a statement Thursday. "Eric succumbed to injuries that he sustained in the senseless, violent act that took the lives of five other colleagues and friend on September 27, 2012. We pray for Eric's family and we ask that you respectfully allow them to grieve privately at this time."

In making the decision to take her husband off life support, the wife of Eric Rivers wrote on his CaringBridge site that "it's painfully evident that the damage to his brain is severe and something that no one can recover from."

She went on to say she never thought she would have to tell her kids that Eric was not coming home, adding "we will allow Eric to pass with dignity and grace."
