CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: A Canadian truck driver was shot and killed early Wednesday on the South Side of Chicago. Police said he was the victim of a robbery with multiple male perpetrators.

Gary Clark, 39, of Courtice, Ontario, was found shot inside a semi-truck parked at a vacant lot located in the 5800 block of South Aberdeen Street about 8 p.m., authorities said.

Clark had just finished visiting his brother – who he was very close with – and had decided to sleep for a few hours in his truck before making the drive back to Canada.

After Clark's brother heard shots fired, he called the police and ran out to try and help his brother. He stayed with Clark until the very end.

Clark is survived by his wife and two children, ages 2 and 17. His brother told him they would be taken care of before he died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner said Clark was shot in the leg.

Paramedics took the man to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Crime scene investigators just finished gathering evidence by noon on Wednesday, when they took down the yellow tape. They waited for the moisture to evaporate to do fingerprints on the truck.

Area South detectives said the evidence indicates Clark was the victim of armed robbery.

Police have yet to release descriptions of the suspects, and have made no arrests as of noon on Wednesday.

Gary Clark's family said once the company comes to remove his truck, they will hold a candle light vigil in the neighborhood.
