Richfield police shot and killed a man with a knife Friday morning at a home on the 6600 block of Park Avenue.
The Richfield Police Department has identified three officers who have been placed on paid administrative leave following Friday's fatal, officer-involved shooting.
Officials say the officers involved were:
Sgt. Mark Shelley, a 20-year veteran
Officer Tom Blair, a 23-year veteran
Officer Brian Rogge, a 16-year veteran
Police say the officers were responding to a domestic disturbance involving a man with a knife at a home in the 6600 block of Park Avenue South shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, the officers met 25-year-old Jeffrey Michael O'Connor, who was fatally shot during the encounter.
No one else was injured, police say.
Police have not released any other details about the incident, and the department said no further information is available because the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is still actively investigating the shooting.
Lt. Mike Flaherty, of the Richfield Police Department, said he is confident the investigation will show the officers followed department policy and procedure.
"It will be determined that this was a justified use of force," he wrote in a release. "All of these officers are professional, well-trained veterans of this department."
O'Connor had no criminal history. His obituary states he worked for Cargil through a temp agency. FOX 9 News stopped by his family's home, but they declined to comment.
