ST. PETER, Minn. (AP) - King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden received a warm welcome in St. Peter, as part of their 3-day trip in Minnesota.
They visited St. Peter Friday to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of Gustavus Adolphus College by Swedish immigrants.
The Free Press reports about 2,000 people, including 1,000 St. Peter school children, lined the walkway all the way to Christ Chapel. Many held small Swedish and American flags and waved them as the couple passed.
Gov. Mark Dayton is hosting the Swedish monarchs the governor's residence in St. Paul on Saturday. The royals will also dedicate the Carl and Leslie Nelson Cultural Center at the American Swedish Institute.
The couple toured a new cultural center at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis on Thursday.
