A 47-year-old Willernie, Minn. woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle Friday night in Mahtomedi, police said.
The woman was walking in the lane of traffic when a northbound vehicle traveling on Hilton Trail near Hallam Avenue struck her around 9 p.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Matt Wieland said she was not walking in a crosswalk at the time she was hit, but it is a "fairly well-lit area."
The woman was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, Wieland said.
The 20-year-old Pine Springs man who struck her is cooperating with police.
She was transported to Regions Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Weiland said police were called about 30 minutes before the accident from someone concerned the woman was intoxicated. Police were investigating her wellbeing when they received the call about the pedestrian accident.
Police said they have not determined whether or not alcohol played a role.
The Minnesota State Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause of the accident. Authorities have not released the identities of either individuals involved.
