4chan message board post of EHS threat
EDINA, Minn. (KMSP) -
In a matter of hours, Edina police successfully identified and took into a custody a student responsible for an anonymous threat of violence at Edina High School early Friday morning.
Just after midnight, police received tips that a student posted specific threats on a 4chan.com message board about an act of violence that would occur at Edina High School on Friday.
Police contacted school administrators, identified the student and took them into custody. Edina Patch reports the student will be charged with a felony, possibly as soon as Friday afternoon
Classes at Edina High School resumed as normal Friday, with officers in uniform at the school to ease the situation.
DISTRICT STATEMENT
Shortly after midnight on Friday, October 5th, district administration received notice from the Edina Police Department that an anonymous threat against Edina High School was posted online. The threat referenced an act of violence that was to happen at the school on Friday (today). Within a couple of hours of the posting, the police had identified the juvenile who posted the threat. They have the individual in custody and have resolved the situation. At this time, the threat is unfounded and the situation is under control. Classes at all schools will proceed as normal today.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority and we take threats against our schools seriously. We are fortunate to have a strong relationship with our local law enforcement and appreciate the work they have done to identify the individual responsible for this threat in such an expedient and professional manner.
