RICHFIELD, Minn. (KMSP) -
Richfield police shot and killed a man with a knife Friday morning at a home on the 6600 block of Park Avenue.
Officers were called to the area around 9 a.m., when they came in contact with the knife-wielding man.
Maj. Kip Carver, of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, said the officer involved in the shooting was unharmed during the incident.
Police didn't provide any information on the circumstances of the incident and what action led to the officer-involved shooting.
On Sunday, the man killed in the shooting was identified as 25-year-old Jeffrey Michael O'Connor, who lived at the address where he was shot. His cause of death is listed as homicide from multiple gun shot wounds.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating O'Connor's death.
Property records show the home belongs to 63-year-old Kathleen Brockmeir.
"She's a wonderful human being," neighbor Mickey Anderson told FOX 9 News, adding that Brockmeir lives in the home with her adult nephew. "All I can say is, they're a wonderful family. I'd like to know what happened."
The Associated Press reported the man who was shot was emotionally disturbed and created a possible hostage situation.
