Firefighters responded to contain a grass fire that broke out in Brooklyn Park shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon near Highway 252.
The first units on the scene found the fire was covering an area of 50 yards by 100 yards, and it quickly doubled in size along the highway while spreading a wooded area and nearby yards on Irving Avenue.
The Brooklyn Fire Department sent 10 units to fight the flames, which was brought under control in about 40 minutes, with 20 additional minutes spent on mop-up.
No injuries were reported, but the fire did cause a major backup of traffic on Highway 252 due to lane closures as the fire vehicles gained access.
